About the client.

Kontakt.az is one of the largest retail chains in Azerbaijan, specializing in the sale of electronics, home appliances, furniture, and textiles.

Kontakt.az began its journey in 2006 with a small store selling mobile phones, accessories, and numbers under the name “Kontakt Mobile.” By 2010, they expanded into computers and cameras, rebranding to “Kontakt Electronics.” In 2020, they underwent a rebranding process, simplifying the name to “Kontakt.”

With over 30,000 products across categories like digital devices, home appliances, and furniture, Kontakt.az offers everything customers need for work, study, home, entertainment, and relaxation.

In 2021, Kontakt.az expanded internationally, establishing a presence in Georgia. Today, they operate 38 stores across Azerbaijan, 3 in Georgia, and two online platforms, further solidifying their position as a leading retailer in the region.

The Challenge.

The client initially operated on a WordPress platform for approximately eight years. During this period, the business grew by focusing primarily on smartphones and a few other digital products. However, as part of a strategic decision to expand and add new product categories, the company transitioned to a marketplace model.

To support this expansion, they chose Magento, which they believed could handle marketplace demands better than WordPress. The key challenge they faced was finding developers with Magento expertise, as the platform was not widely used in their local market in Azerbaijan, where Shopify, WooCommerce, and custom solutions were more common.

An initial attempt to migrate to Magento failed, leading the company to revert temporarily to WordPress. Despite the setback, they continued searching for skilled developers and eventually partnered with MageCloud.

When they connected with Paul and the MageCloud team, we conducted a thorough audit of the existing website, providing solutions to the initial problems and offering additional recommendations outside the initial scope.

Today, the Kontakt.az team has one developer from MageCloud working with them in-house and plans to expand further.

Solution.

Upon starting the collaboration, the first few sprints were dedicated to fixing numerous bugs that had accumulated on the site, bringing it to a stable state where it could process orders seamlessly.

One of the most significant projects MageCloud delivered was the implementation of an SEO module to boost the website’s organic traffic. 

Additionally, MageCloud optimized the content management process by enabling bulk image uploads and automated the launch of marketing campaigns, improving the operational efficiency of the site.

Results.

Thanks to MageCloud’s interventions, the website is now fully functional and operates smoothly without major issues. The SEO improvements have had a positive impact on organic traffic, and the automation of marketing efforts has streamlined internal workflows.
