Migration to WordPress or WooCommerce

Do you have an eCommerce site you’re looking to migrate to WordPress or WooCommerce? If your business’s main objective is to sell products or services from your website, WordPress and WooCommerce are both great platforms.

You may already be using a different platform for your online business, but want to migrate to WooCommerce. Migration from one eCommerce platform to another can be a challenging process, but the good news is that we are also experts in WordPress/WooCommerce, and we can help with your migration.

Migration to WordPress or WooCommerce

WooCommerce is a great option for an online business. At MageCloud, we offer different online services to help optimize business websites and eCommerce platforms. We offer web design and development, but we are also experts in the WordPress/WooCommerce platform. This means that we can offer WordPress/WooCommerce specific services. For example, we offer a service where we can migrate your current system to the WordPress/WooCommerce platform. Learn more about how we do this right here.

The first step of the migration to WordPress/WooCommerce is for us to check out your current system. We will take a look at your website and its functionality. We will also talk to you about the functionality you are looking for and why you want to transition. We will also take a look at the SEO or Search Engine Optimization of your current website. This will tell us how your website is currently ranking on search engines like Google. We will start indexing the website so that we can preserve the things that are working well for your SEO, but we will also take note of things that can be improved on your future website. Then, we will work on the data migration itself. We will handle all of this so that you don’t have to worry about your data getting lost or messed up in any way.

Finally, we will switch the site over so that you are up and running. We will make sure that everything is operating as it should be for you, and then we will leave the website in your hands.

Migration Process

Audit of extensions and modules

Our first step in any migration is to analyze your existing site and prepare a list of modules and extensions that are currently installed. In many cases about 60% of the modules are no longer necessary, so they can be excluded from the scope of the migration.

During this step, it is very important to define all third-party systems that are connecting to the platform.

Most of the extension vendors are already prepared modules for WordPress/WooCommerce, but we strongly recommend, if it’s all possible, to use one single extension vendor to get all modules configured. Moreover, we would be happy to provide our coupon codes that will provide you some discounts.

SEO audit of existing website

The most important would be to save your organic rankings or prepare for the better ranking of a new website. Our recommendation would be to invest time to fix these issues on WordPress/WooCommerce site even before you start a project for migration.

Typically there are many issues with the indexing of the existing website that might be a problem in the future so fixing them first is the best approach.

We always recommend keeping meta titles and meta descriptions for the WordPress/WooCommerce site to be the same as on WordPress/WooCommerce site, as well as URLs for categories and products.

Data migration

We are partnering with Cart2Cart migration service to organize proper data migration – so we will be happy to provide you a 20% OFF coupon code for that service.

WooCommerce technical SEO audit

We identified all required tasks to make sure that your WordPress/WooCommerce is done with a proper SEO in mind. Unfortunately, a lot of developers release sites without SEO in mind which causing more troubles and take a lot more time to fix.

Our key tasks would be: organize proper redirects, organize proper noindex, follow and noindex, nofollow tags. Implement proper re=”nofollow” tags, organize proper canonical tags, product snippets; protect catalogsearch and customer pages, organize proper sitemap, and a lot of other small tweaks that are very critical to be done before launching a new site.

WooCommerce go-live

When everything is ready of course we want to switch the site without any downtime. The best scenario that is also cost-effective would be to coordinate the DNS with Cloudflare. Normally we recommend connecting Cloudflare to the original website in advance. It turns out that switching off the DNS there is quite fast so the chance of getting any issues with the cached DNS is minimal.
